The PPF calculator shows the maturity value of your Public Provident Fund account at the current rate of 7.1% a year, for the basic 15 years or with 5-year extensions. It works the same for a PPF account at the post office or at any bank.
PPF maturity table
| Yearly deposit | 15 years | 25 years |
|---|---|---|
| Rs. 60,000 (Rs. 5,000 a month) | Rs. 16.27 lakh | about Rs. 41.2 lakh |
| Rs. 1,50,000 (maximum) | Rs. 40.68 lakh | Rs. 1.03 crore |
Rs. 1.5 lakh every year for 15 years means Rs. 22.5 lakh invested and Rs. 18.18 lakh tax-free interest. Extend for two more 5-year blocks and the account crosses Rs. 1 crore.
PPF rules 2026
- Interest is calculated on the lowest balance between the 5th and the last day of each month, so deposit before the 5th (ideally before 5 April for the full year).
- Loan from year 3 to year 6; partial withdrawal from year 7.
- Exempt-Exempt-Exempt: deposit qualifies for 80C (old regime), interest and maturity are tax-free.
- The rate is reviewed every quarter by the Finance Ministry. It has been 7.1% for many quarters running.

PPF vs NPS for retirement
PPF is guaranteed and fully tax-free but capped at Rs. 1.5 lakh a year. NPS has no cap, has historically earned more over long periods with equity, and gives extra tax benefits, but part of it becomes a taxable annuity. Many savers use PPF as the safe part and NPS as the growth part. Compare in the NPS calculator.
